Doofy Dog Sunday
This is from our early evening 4th of July walk at Marcus Bayou and Ranger was mos def feeling the heat. He has a severe allergic reaction to even a single flea and, tragically, we've decided to groom him ourselves now so his brittle fur looks as though it's been run over by a very small, dull, and wobbly lawn mower. Ranger isn't all that thrilled about this latest development but he doesn't seem to mind too much unless we touch his front legs which are very sensitive. I will get better at it, he just has to hang in there a little longer. I hope.

Kota has the same allergy to fleas, it's horrible! Ranger looks handsome, not doofy at all! Kota would like to join him on that lovely walk!
moc, Doofy Dog is one of his nickmanes. And now, two weeks later, his haircut is downright hilarious. My only consolation is that eventually it will all grow out. :p
And yeah, Kota and Ranger on a walk, the dream team!
That looks like a fun place to walk.
What we do for our dogs...and what our dogs endure for us.
Ranger is a trooper. I googled essential oil flea repellent recipe and there are many options that may help.....
I sympathize because I am highly allergic to fleas. Albert get Frontline. That seems to be enough, because I don't have to de-flea Phoebe at all.
i see what looks like someone in shorts to the upper right of the photo? a river? people are swimming? did you take Ranger swimming?
to many?'s
Peoples seems to have an allergy to fleas (and me). When I came back from NM he was a wreck. Predisone/cortisone and flea stuff.
JE, not as fun as your walks I'm sure.
bc, it's definitely a symbiotic relationship
dmoll, I know how to treat for fleas, keep them off, it's just that Ranger went to a big box groomer and came back with the worst flea infestation I have ever seen. He's never been the same since. What's missing is that I need to get him a supplement that gives him oils that combat the skin condition. I ran out and had to wait until our work situation improved. = : (
AH, Frontline doesn't kill fleas it sterilizes them so if you treat one of your critters you've treated them all. We only treat Ranger if there's an uprising.
PA, that's DH with his shirt off. This is a boardwalk that runs through a water reclamation/treatment facility so no swimming. Besides Ranger is not, sadly, a water baby. My vet says Benadryl is OK for dogs, doesn't make them sleepy, but don't know about cats. And no, not too many, I love asking questions, way too much but sometimes I can't help myself. I think that when Peoples gets older he might very well turn out to be a cuddle cat. That's what happened with William.
Poor baby. My best friend has a dog that needs monthly allergy shots. She has learned to do it herself...we do the things we need to do.
I think he looks like a sweetheart.

When you own a dog, can you do the toe nail clipping yourself or do you always have to send it out? How high does the fence need to be?
bfarr, they always are when we love them.
PA, hmmmmm, let me see...yes, you can do it yourself although we never do Ranger's because he runs on the street twice a day. I do Keating's, does that count? Fencing? High enough to satisfy the neighborhood I would think.
Good luck with treating Ranger. Sounds like work for both of you. I've known a couple of people who do or did clip their dogs' nails. I wouldn't try it myself.
You make that park look very nice.
Ranger still has that big fluffy tail, despite the new haircut. He looks so handsome strutting across the bridge.
I use Frontline on Tommy and bought it for the cats but I'm reluctant to use it. They're indoor only so maybe it's okay. Ranger is lucky to have you guys.
Peoples will never be a cuddle cat. 50 years of cats and only cats. I know a thing or two about cats. It's not his nature but he is amusing in a perplexing kind of way. And he likes Mr V.
I'm in search mode for my next love. She's out there. I ask about the fence because I have one between me and my neighbor. It's not that tall. 4 ft or less. He has a male lab who has never jumped it. I'm interested in a female shepherd. I really don't know that much about dogs except that many of my friends own them. I may not become one of them but I am putting out feelers.
PA,I see, I would build higher, dogs can easily jump 4', especially if they want to get at each other. I would recommend getting a smaller, more portable dog at this stage of your life. Big dogs can inadvertently knock you down and cost way more money. I'll never have another cat after William and if I ever have another dog after Ranger it will be a small one. I definitely understand why people like them when they're older, not such a physical challenge but then, I am a few years older than you.
What?! Did I just read that PA is looking for a dog? I'll help you find a dog. Just say the word.
