If you don't hear from me tomorrow it may be because the temperature is going down into the teens tonight (in farenheit terms, that's cold!), which is down from the twenties we saw last night. It does happen in this part of Florida, not often, but when it does we experience power outages so we may be huddled up with the dog, the cats, and each other for a time, waiting until all systems are "Go!" again.

good luck. hunker down and stay warm. we are going to be cold tonight here too.
I'm so sorry. Please try to stay safe and warm until your temperatures return to a more normal range.
Hope you won't get stuck without electricity:) Take care!
I really appreciate the concern from all of you who are much further north than we are. I hope all is well for you as well. It's been a really interesting winter so far. Who knows what we're all in for in the next few months????
This weather is too cold for me!
I may have to become a snow bird and travel south next year LOL
Ouch! But the banana plant, just like the economy, will bounce back. Eventually.
(2 dog 2 cat night? Keep toasty.)
Aye caramba! as Bart says. Teens in the Florida panhandle. What's happening to the citrus crops? Low single digits here tonight. And no banana trees, ever.
Cold weather is a wonderful excuse to snuggle up with the good book and stay inside ... no lights ... candles can be very romantic ... have fun. Gotta say I love those summery bananas though.
Geez, that banana plant did not like that at all, did it? The southern extent of the cold snap is getting a lot of cover, even over here.
This is not why we live in Florida.
Amen B Squared. One of the reasons I love banana plants is their ability to come back so quickly. Once the temps warm up you can practically see them growing.
This feels way too much like RI, you know, the place we left to get OUT of the cold. :( (Left the dog's water bowl on the porch last night and tiny little critters could have gone ice skating across its surface this morning!)
Girl,
I saw that banana tree go down and all I could think of was Hiker's economic indicator!!!
It has been below freezing here for several days. Thank goodness my pipes have not burst. My hose is frozen solid however. Snow predicted for THursday night but I will be flying the friendly skies by then! Oh lala!
V
sad :(
Sand Momma, you and me both. Key West is looking good right about now.
AH, we were toasty. With less humidity I should have set the thermostat lower. We were pretty warm last night.
Bob, the Bartman speaks. I'll bet you have some in the indoor botanical gardens. I remember it as very humid in there.
Julie, it's very unusual. It's also less upsetting in some ways than the economy and terrorism.
B2, lets start a campaign, in fact lets get a referendum to keep winter out of Florida.
BL, I can see why you feel insulted. At least we don't have heavy snows - yet.
V, it was part of the reason I posted it. Too bad the County Extension Agent isn't on hand (the local yokel is a dork and won't work for bones or anything). Have fun in Gay Paree!
Kaye, it looks very sad but they will come back. They are amazing plants.
I just saw the news this morning on television which would be after your cold night. I've gone dvd since my channels require the cat stay in one position and I have to keep the antenna on my bed with a tin foil ball at the end and my right leg poised skyward (really it's not that bad but almost).
Anyhow, I'm surprised to find the country in this freeze. I also love the top photo (a spring banner?)
as well as the beaten banana.
PA, I want to see a picture of that.
Noooooooooooooo. The before shot is gorgeous. Isn't the cold/frost so much colder in fair-winter-weather parts?
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog so my return visit reveals your wonderful blog. I love your work! My mom used to live in Broward County FL so I get all nostalgic about Florida life. She had a banana tree that fruited, a rarity near her (fed it lots of kitchen scraps for compost). Beautiful photos.
