Sara Groves' song, "You Did That For Me" moves me each and every time I listen to it, takes all the rough edges off my faith, and humbles me in a way I can't explain. You can listen to it here.
I don't have to cry anymore
I don't have to worry about what's in store
I've walked that road exhausted and poor
I don't have to cry anymore
And I don't have to know it all
I don't have to be so proud and stand so tall
I climbed that mountain only to fall
I don't have to know it all
You did that for me
Oh, you did that for me
You wore the chains so I could be free
Yeah, yeah
You did that for me
And I don't have to be ashamed
Hang my head or shoulder the blame
Wondering if my life's been in vain
I don't have to be ashamed
Oh, you did that for me
Oh, you did that for me
You wore the chains so I could be free
Yeah, yeah
You did that for me
Man of sorrows
Well acquainted with grief
Drug down to the city dump
Spread eagle on a cross beam
Propped up like a scarecrow
Nailed like a thief
There for all the world to see
You wore the chains so I could be free
Yeah, yeah
You did that for me
You did that for me
You did that for me
You wore the chains so I could be free

Nicely composed shot, and I'm glad that you find the song meaningful.
Love this perspective!
Surrendering self towards God is the best always.
The photo is beautiful in its simplicity. I'm not familiar with the song. Going to listen now.
Great pic
and beautiful song.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Paula for taking me to the foot of the cross today.
Powerful graphics, pulling the eye upward. I'm not religious but the picture still packs an emotional punch.
I made a mess of that sentence; let me try again.
Like Bob, I'm not religious. But I don't think you have to be to appreciate your photo and that song.
Beautiful. I'm an agnostic whose a big fan of Jesus. I appreciate the personal touch and I also appreciate Christianity when it doesn't come at me in a ham fisted manor. (Unlike my new friend Ronald Frassel)
I'll have to pass this song along to Daughter. She'll enjoy strumming it on the guitar and singing along. You know, it's funny that we bow our heads in prayer, as if in sorrow, when maybe we're supposed to be looking up--to God--and out--for others. It's not the message that needs change but the attitude, always the attitude. Thanks for the gentle tap on the shoulder, Paula.
