Hair

A few years ago I was sitting in church and had an epiphany. I realized that I was looking at hundreds of women's heads and they all had dyed their hair. It think out of the whole group there were probably three of us who were aging gracefully. '~)

All these people at the Goombay Festival have hair au natural and I think they're gorgeous but then, of course, I'm biased.

To be honest I've been thinking about streaking my hair with Manic Panic but can't decide between pink or blue. Maybe I should forget the streaking and spend a couple of weeks as Pink.

You might remember this energetic guy, the lead singer for Vibe Irie. I photographed him on New Year's Eve.

I think this proves the old adage, like father, like sons.

I don't know which is more beautiful.

This is Rachel Detoro, a local professional organic gardener, and her sun bleached hair is a fringe benefit of her job. What kind of hair-do do you sport?

Hi PJ, I'm very opinionated about this. My hair is natural, I'm almost 65. It's blond, going gray, slowly. I see many senior women who color their hair; the problem is the dark, or young shade, doesn't go with their mature face. It's actually clown like. If everyone had cataracts can couldn't see clearly, it wouldn't make much difference, but I think it does. You can sign me forever natural, not forever young.

J, you never said anything about your do. Hmmmm?
Diana, how's the reception?
M-N, I would love to have his dreads - and he can really move, so great to watch him perform.
V, I'm with you, although I am seriously considering the streaks.
Jan, I think you'll be forever young, I just have a feeling...

I'm an au natural girl. I have never coloured my hair but haven't got enough grey to worry me yet. Not sure what I might do if things change while I am still in the workforce.

Loved your collection. I like people doing interesting things with their hair, even though I don't myself.

I'm a traditionalist, nothing but a Mohawk will do.

oops ... I colour mine! Have done for about 10 years.

I love these people images, Paula. And not one of them labelled a stranger. The one of the father & sons is very fetching. And I do adore the chap with the flower in his hair.

2B, I think you're pulling my leg.

Julie, I could never keep up with hair color, luckily my silver has come in evenly. This was my first full day of shooting with my new camera and felt lucky just to get some shots off.

PJ, I love all these people photos of yours!

I like the pale brown (is that considered blond?) dreadlocks. I have to confess that I dye my hair, but I have been since I was 30! Early silver runs in my family and when you're married to a guy whose almost-80-year-old father still has very black hair, you'd dye it too ;)

Blond. Natural more out of laziness than principle.

(Nice shot of father; the sons should be so lucky.)

On a clear night I can hear radio from Addis Abada, otherwise it's just whales and dolphins, and a few bats.

Love the double braid. I would love to have hair that long. That is what I would do. Alas, my hair won't grow that way anymore. I'm happy to have it manageable and presentable in the morning when I head out the door.

Cool subject. Never really thought about it much but would make a great topic for the scrapbook.

Gawd, don't do the Manic Panic. I did it for about a year and none of my bedding survived the experience. The pillowcases in particular were disgusting.

I shall never color my hair. But I will always keep it short. Life is too short for long hair.

No dye for me! It's too much hard work fixing the roots each time they show :p
