PDP On the Road: New Orleans Part VI: 4/100 Strangers Sunday

Sunday is the Sabbath, a day of rest. Of course, not every religion or denomination's Sabbath is Sunday and it definitely isn't a sabbath for clergy or lay people who help with religious services. They choose a different day to withdraw and reflect as well as do the things they enjoy for relaxation and recreation. Maybe they like to smoke a Cuban style cigar?

Last Sunday evening I met Pedro while he was working in The Cigar Factory on Decatur Street. He spoke no English and when I asked him his name he smiled and said "Pedro" very softly while pointing to his tape dispenser where his name was written on a piece of masking tape. I love his leather hat and his smile with his cigar clamped in the side of his mouth. I didn't get the impression that he considered what he was doing work, it was more like pleasure.

I love the photo of Pedro, with the guy in the background slightly blurry. Very real and gritty photo. Thanks for sharing! ;)

Pedro looks like a man who takes pride in his work.

Beautifully done, PJ! It really brings his quiet, dignified personality to us. Excellent collage giving a real feel of the place and the work.

Nice stranger shot PJ and a fascinating subject. I have never seen cigar making.

Looks like you're having a great time! While you were away, the Blue Angels flew from your hometown to mine! We're having an airshow this weekend. LOVE IT. It's the first time I've ever seen them. What a SHOW! Very loud :) I thought of you and wondered if you hear them so much you're used to it!

I shot those guys too but yours are composed and lit a lot better. The cigar makers have a precise dexterity I couldn't dream of imitating.

Ans=d as to your question: I use a tripod if it's convenient to have one along. The shot in Saturday's post was shot on a tripos. Usually I'm pretty sloppy about it. Thank heavens for image stabilization.

Oz, the guy in the background is a very typical New Orleans kind of guy.
JE, neither had I although I have seen people curing tobacco which is fascinating.
D, I'm glad you got to see them. They used to fly over my house every Wednesday for years. It took a lot of the mytery out of them but they're still very impressive.
Bob, I would love to see your take on them. I sometimes use a tripod but prefer hand held. I used a lamp post to steady my hand when taking my previous sepia night scene.

Love this stranger and glad you've joined us. I think Pedro is a dear. What great shots.

Tripod? I hate mine but I lost a ton of photos in my church yesterday because I was hard headed. Grrrr.
