Go Away

Out off of Sorrento Rd are a number of osprey nests. The ospreys are easily seen whilst you're driving by, you can see them nesting and flying about as they work the up and down drafts above the highway, looking for whatever they look for, carrion maybe. But stop and get out of your car to look at them up close and they begin frantically peeping, and continue until they take wing and fly off into the surrounding pines trying to put you off the trail of their eggs/chicks.
Silly ospreys, everybody knows their eggs aren't fit for omelets. Or even egg salad. Amazingly, their chicks taste an awful lot like baked ziti.

Another great photos. The osprey is so beautiful. Is it their chicks really taste like baked ziti?

I thought ospreys ate fish. Maybe they're omnivores like crows or something? Pretty cool birds. Very cool photos!

Birds choose the darndest places to set up housekeeping. Sometimes the doves around here build nests in the traffic lights. I think yellow is their favorite.

Beautiful bird! Here we have stork nests instead of ospreys', lots of them along the highway on the left bank of the Tagus river.

Lilli, I'm looking forward to photographing the babies as well. Lat year that nest had two. They were very accomplished peepers.
Sandy, they are very protective. Very, very.
Mojo, they do eat fish, I don't know enough about them to understand their flight patterns. Perhaps they're just enjoying themselves?
AH, I love watching birds flying in and out of stop light "arms". How clever of them to use all that wasted housing.
JM, they are very beautiful. I think you have them in Europe as well.

I have never seen nests like this. I must be wonderful to have such magnificent birds to observe close at hand.

What a good eye spotting these on a drive-by. Never seen one and they do look a little strange. BTW, you aren't by some chance a native Brit, are you? Damn few Americans use the word "whilst." And we all hope you are joking about the culinary experiments.

That gives a whole new meaning to pole sitting!
Great shots.

Those utility poles look like they were just made to hold birds' nests! I take it you got a dose of frantic peeping, huh? :)

Wonderful set of photos!! As always:)

Sorry Bob, they're just that tasty. :P
Arija, I think it's really touching that the nest platforms have been so well planned and built. We should all be so lucky to have our dream home.
Hilda, I think ospreys are a bit obsessive compulsive about the peeping thing. You should hear the chicks. Lord love a duck, it's almost unbearable. You would think someone was trying to kill them.
