Breaking Bricks at Bayview Community Center

This is a demonstration of brick breaking by the Yoshukai karate class the meets at the Northeast Branch of The YMCA. I photographed them during the recent celebration of the Japanese New Year at Bayview Community Center. These photographs are in sequence.

Today's music is "Beach Boy Stomp (AKA Karate-02/08/62)" by The Beach Boys.

Quick transition! Love the movement you've captured in the third shot especially. Great job!

Thanks for stopping by. No the dog isn't mine, he was competing in a Shcutzhund trial I was shooting and apparently that's his "victory dance" when he knows the show's over. Word is that he does it every time he finishes an event. Very cool dog, but not one you want to run afoul of!

i often pass the karate club in hania, the window is clear and you can see what they are doing, i like the way these martial arts have a sort of structure to them, they make me feel that violence is not uncontrollable (in a positive way)

Sorry about the test comment but sometimes this format won't allow me to leave a comment.

I love this series of photos. Really unique. You've managed to capture the action and motion and emotions of what's going on with this group of men.

One of the more original series I've seen lately on the blogs.

Thank you for visiting me for SSS!

Looking forward to returning here.

You are very good at documenting movement..
Impressive.

I used to train in Shotokan karate so I had some idea of what they were about, it really helps when you can anticipate the motion.
