New Year's Eve Celebration: The Pelican Drop

A while back I blogged about a new hotel in downtown Pensacola, Solé Inn and Suites. They used some of those photos on their website and in return they gave me a free room for New Year's night. Who said blogging is a waste of time? Not me!
Pensacola put on a spectacular New Year's Eve celebration and we were able to walk to and from all the events over the long evening that finished up with "The Pelican Drop". We also enjoyed several bands, got to see local newscasters Sue Straughn and Bob Solarski close-up, and got to party on New Year's Eve with about 30,000 close friends.

This band is called Kiss Army and they had the main stage during the Pelican Drop (it was suspended by a crane). They were wonderful to photograph.

Tomorrow we'll some other bands who rocked "The Drop".

Today's song is Rock and Roll All Nite.

  2. happy new year - I do wish you would allow readers to turn the music ON rather than have it play automatically.

  3. Ooh, what a treat. Sounds like you had a fantastic New Year's Eve! LOL at the "30,000 close friend" ;D

Thank you for that wonderful tip, PJ! I'm going to get the string, bolt and washer real soon and try it out.

  5. We have just recently moved back to the Pensacola area after living in IL for a year. This place is definitely a refreshing change of pace from the Land of Lincoln (and crazy/crooked governors). I didn't get to the Pelican drop downtown (sick Hubby) and was wondering if anyone would blog about it. I'm glad to see that you did and that I've found another local blogger with an interesting perspective.

  6. Ha, ha, of course the pelican was suspended by a crane. I hadn't realized you were such a party animal. I used to sell Kiss albums back in the day....

  7. Thanks everyone for stopping by, I just got up after getting a full/fuller night's sleep.

Gerald, I'm always torn about what to do about the music. I go through spells where it's on autoplay and then times when it's on manual. Still haven't figured out what I want to do.

Walk2write glad to have you back, we almost didn't get to go because of illness but we rallied and had so much fun. I highly recommend it, especially having a room downtown. We're thinking of making it a tradition.

DML, I'll just bet you were a wild one during your time in promotional work. Now you're a respectable bun-mum.

  10. Wow, that is so cool! Love all the pictures! Atlanta has the "Peach Drop" and Christian always thought it should be the "ant drop" because there are far more fire ants in Georgia than peaches,lol...so true! Not sure if Virginia has any sort of "drop"!

    Happy New Year!

  11. Tanya,
I totally identify with the ant issue. When I'm out photographing I'm always aware of "what" I'm standing on. Those ant beds are everywhere!
